SNOWSHOE AT DURANGO MOUNTAIN RESORT
Explore the backcountry on snowshoes—all you need is a sense of adventure, we provide the rest! Our experienced guides will take you into the scenic San Juan National Forest, where you can enjoy winter’s beauty in areas you would never see any other way.
People of all ages and abilities can enjoy snowshoeing because there’s no learning involved, you go at your own pace, and you can do it under a variety of terrain and snow conditions. We provide snowshoes & poles, a guide, lunch, and water. You will need sturdy, warm boots, heavy socks, ski-type clothing, hat & gloves—and gaiters are recommended. You will need to dress in layers since the weather can change quickly. We also suggest a fanny pack or small day pack with extra water, sunscreen, and of course a camera!
Durango Mountain Resort offers three Snowshoeing adventures:
Half-Day and Full-Day Snowshoe Tours:
Explore Purgatory Mountain during the day with an adventure and a workout. Snowshoe Tours are offered half or full day and are great for all abilities. Tours include guide, chairlift ride and snowshoe rental.
Half Day: $30

Full Day: $45 (includes lunch)
10:00 am to 2:30 pm

Moonlight Snowshoe Tours
Explore Purgatory Mountain by the light of the moon; moonlight snowshoe tours are planned during the Full Moon of each month. Take the last chair of the day up the mountain and watch the sunset and moon rise. Enjoy a wine and cheese party at the Powderhouse then hike down with your guide. Tours include lift ticket, snowshoe rental, guide and wine and cheese party.

SNOW COASTER TUBING HILL
Fly down the mountain on a tube at the Snow Coaster tubing hill. Rent a tube from Purgatory’s rental fleet, hike up the hill and then whoosh down one of three tubing lanes in the Columbine Area. It’s fun for all ages, and the perfect end to a great day on the mountain.
The Tubing Hill is open until January 2nd from 3 - 7PM. After January 2nd, the Coaster will be open Fri and Saturday from 3-7PM. We'll be open Martin Luther King and Presidents Weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3-7PM. March 12-20th from 3-7PM. All times and dates are subject to change, weather permitting.
Cost is $5.00 per tube per hour. Guests must use Purgatory's tubes. Each person must have a tube and two people can not get on one tub unless it is an adult and a child age 3 to 5. Under 3 can not tube due to child safety. Children 6 years or older can ride alone.

SNOWCAT SKIING AND BOARDING
The San Juan Ski Company provides Snowcat Skiing and Snowboarding in the rugged and remote San Juan National Forest of Southwestern Colorado. Intermediate, advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders can now explore this fabulous backcountry terrain with the San Juan Ski Company. Based at Durango Mountain Ski Resort, we are only 30 minutes from Silverton Mountain Ski Area and 2 hours from both Telluride and Wolf Creek Ski Resorts.
With 35,000 acres of breathtaking terrain in the heart of the West San Juan Mountains, The San Juan Ski Company is Colorado’s largest Cat Skiing operation. Escorted by our experienced guides, guests will find untracked bowls, chutes, ridges, glades and treed slopes in an area that receives between 20 and 30 feet of snow each season.
Elevations in our permit area range from 8,800 at Durango Mountain Resorts base to 12,500 feet at the summit of Greyrock Peak. Our skiers and riders are transported by powerful Bombardier BR 400+ snowcats with custom designed, totally enclosed and heated coaches. The snowcat rides of 15-30 minutes between runs gives you time to relax, clean off your goggles, and keep warm. And, unlike heli-skiing the snowcat always goes regardless of the weather. Even on the stormiest of days you’ll be out enjoying the fresh powder.

SNOWMOBILE ADVENTURES
Ride high into the mountains with Snowmobile Adventures! There are a variety of one- to four-hour guided excursions available, traveling on more than 60 miles of spectacular trails… beginning right at the resort. Riders can journey individually or with a passenger. It’s fun, thrilling, and available for all ages. Tours run continually from 9am to 5pm daily, weather permitting. 970.385.2141.

NORDIC SKIING
While you are in Durango this Winter, spend a day the Nordic Center at Purgatory! The Nordic Center officially opens Saturday December 12th, so come on up and and have some fun!
The Nordic Center boasts 18km of groomed cross country trails, through beautiful forests, with incredible views of the San Juan Mountains. Our trails are groomed for both classic cross country and skate skiing. Come and enjoy the rustic atmosphere of our warming hut, fueled by a pot-bellied stove, or enjoy a picnic, on the tables out at one of our many scenic viewpoints.
The Nordic Center is open until March 14th, from 9 am to 4 pm. We have equipment rentals available on site, and offer group lessons daily 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. You could also request a private lesson at noon.
The Nordic Center at Purgatory is conveniently located on highway 550, across the road from Durango Mountain Resort, about a quarter mile north.
Our prices are very affordable. Trail fees are $12 a day for adults and $5 for kids and seniors. Our classic rental skis are $14 a day for adults and $7 for kids and seniors. Group lessons are $35 per person. We offer a special combo package that includes a trail fee, rental skis, and a group lesson all for $50.
Group rates are available for 8 or more.

SNOWBIKES
Try the latest trend in winter sports—Snowbiking. Purgatory has long been a leader of this exciting new sport and now you can rent Snowbikes at Purgatory Rentals from the leader in the industry, Brenter. Snowbiking is great for all ages and abilities. All riders must be certified or take a certification course from the Purgatory Ski and Ride School before snowbiking on the slopes.
